School notes - 20/01/23

GAA

The junior boys football team had an impressive first round victory over Tullamore College last week. The game was played at home with the scoreline finishing Mercy Ballymahon 1:12 to Tullamore College 2:4. Thanks to coaches Mr. Nerney and Shane Kenny.

Basketball

The first and second year boys basketball teams had their first day out of the year away to Coláiste Íosagáin, Portarlington, last week . The first years lost out to a very strong side. The second years had a fine win, winning by one point thanks to a last second lay-up from Ben O Shea. Final score: 32-31. Great effort from both sides and thanks to coaches Mr. Guerin and Mr. McGivney

Fixtures

This week our Senior Girls’ soccer team play Clara to decide who takes top position in the league. Best of luck to the girls and their coaches Mr Teggarty and Mr O’Shea. Results to follow next week.

TY Activities

It was another busy week for our Transition Year students. On Monday the students took part in a workshop on gambling at Bridgeways Family Resource Centre. TY classes also received a school visit from Paul Cleary, Educational and Community officer at Dogs Trust Midlands. The students engaged in a thought-provoking ethics workshop concerning animal welfare. Thank you to Mr Seery for organising these activities.

Catholic Schools Week

Last week we celebrated “Bí Cineálta” (Be Kind) week. Our SPHE and RE teachers focused on promoting the importance of having good values,  preventing and addressing bullying as well as promoting inclusion, equality and diversity amongst all students. This led us into Catholic Schools week, which we are celebrating this week. A number of activities have been organised to celebrate this important week which focuses on the themes of faith, community, love, challenges and hope.

Subject Learning Review

A reminder that our Transition Year subject learning review meeting will take place this Thursday, January 26th.  We look forward to meeting all TY students and their parents.
