Mercy Ballymahon Notes

LGFA

On Tuesday last our senior ladies gaelic football team faced Eureka Kells in the Leinster semi-final. Hard luck to the girls who lost out to an excellent side on a scoreline of 4-07 to 2-06. Well done to the girls for their hard work this year and thank you to their coaches Ms Curley and Ms Colgan.

Soccer

The Senior Girls’ Soccer team had another successful outing last week playing Roscommon Community College in Lecarrow. The girls had a fantastic game ending as 5-3 winners. In difficult windy conditions, the girls stayed resilient, falling behind two times and coming back to claim the points. Goals on the day came from Sian Gallagher (4) and Anna Hayden (1). The girls’ next match is at the end of the month against ASCN Clara to decide who takes top position in the league. This is our first year to have a senior girls soccer team representing the school. Well done to all involved, especially coaches Mr Teggarty and Mr O’Shea. We wish the girls continued success on the pitch.

This is an exciting new initiative that encourages TY students to use their creative thinking skills to come up with solutions in relation to topics such as Mental health, Climate Change, Displaced People, Hidden Poverty, Diversity and Inclusion. Thank you to teachers Mrs Beirne and Mr Finneran who are facilitating the programme.

Senior students were also given talks from UCD and University of Galway last week in relation to their courses in preparation for the 1st of February, the closing date for CAO applications.
