Sports news

Congratulations to our 1st and 2nd year boys’ basketball teams who secured impressive wins against the Marist, Athlone, last week. Our 1st year girls also had an excellent win against the Bower, Athlone. Hard luck to our 2nd year team who lost out on the day. In GAA news, hard luck to our 1st year boys’ team who went down bravely to Moyne CS on Friday last. Goals made the difference on the day with the match ending on a score of 9-07 to 4-07.

Retreat

Last week our 2nd year students enjoyed a retreat with representatives from An Tobar Nua. The focus of these retreats is on developing the overall well-being of the students and encouraging faith in an interactive, relatable, fun and contemporary manner. Thank you to the retreat facilitators. 

Geography Trip

On Wednesday last our 1st year geography students travelled to the Marble Arch Caves, Co. Fermanagh, for an educational field trip. An excellent day was had by all students as they learned about the geology of the limestone landscape, the history and formation of the caves, cave features and more. Thank you to Ms Brennan, Ms Casey, Ms Colgan and Ms Corrigan for accompanying the students. 

TY Activities

Last week our TY students attended the Ger Casey TY Comedy show at Tuar Ard Arts Centre, Moate. Students are also engaging in a 3 week programme with architect Louise Heavin from the Irish school of Architecture. Thank you to Mr Seery for organising all of these excellent opportunities for our Transition Year students. 

SID 2023

Last week we celebrated Safer Internet Day 2023. Well done to all first year students who participated in a competition in their Digital Wellbeing classes. Well done to Alexander Naughton who was the overall winner of the competition. Thank you also to Ms O’Neill who presented to 1st, 2nd and 5th year students on the topic of staying safe online. 

Green Schools

Our school is taking part in the The Big Travel Challenge 2023 for 10 school days beginning on Monday 20th February. For this challenge, students are encouraged to walk to school where it is safe and possible to do so. We are also encouraging students to take part in the Green-Schools Water Poster and Video Competitions 2023. The theme for this year is "Local Water Actions for Global Change". Full details can be found on the school’s social media platforms. 

Subject Learning Review

A reminder to parents of first year students that their Subject Learning Review meeting will take place on Thursday 23rd February. Students are encouraged to attend the meeting along with their parents.
