Green-Schools
Our school is part of the Green-Schools Programme and has achieved the Green Flag for the themes of Litter and Waste, Energy, Water and Travel. We are currently working towards achieving the Green Flag for Biodiversity. This effort is led by our Green-Schools committee and our TY students through our Green-Schools TY module.
As part of our work to achieve the Biodiversity flag, our TY Green-Schools students led the design and creation of a beautiful new outdoor learning and wellness space for our students and staff. This was a cross-curricular project where students used a wide range of skills which included graphing and measuring the area, calculating costs, drawing and gardening. Gardening workshops for students in TY and our special classes were conducted by "Biodiversity in Schools" and all trees and plants were selected for their benefits for biodiversity. This project was possible due to our school’s successful application to receive funding under the Education for Sustainable Development to 2030 funding call 2024.
Our Green-Schools students have received numerous awards and recognitions, many of which are at national level. As well as achieving two Green Flags and
successfully completing two Student Ambassador Programmes, members of our Green-Schools Committee have received national awards including the ECO-
UNESCO Young Environmentalist Award and two Green-Schools National Water Video Awards. At county level, we have been named Green-School’s Travel School of the Year in Co. Longford for two consecutive years in 2024 and 2025.
